Financing Options For Reward Credit Cards

Reward credit cards are basically co-branded cards, where the credit card companies ties up with a reputed merchant to offer a good deal so that you can increase the credit card usage. For instance, if you travel frequently on a particular airline, you can use a particular credit card that has travel rewards and earn ‘airmiles’ that can be redeemed for a free ticket or massive discount on the future trips that you do. Similarly, you can get reward points for being a loyal customer to a restaurant, for car rentals, for promoting your favorite cause, so on and so forth.

Here are some ways to ensure that you get the best deal when you go for rewards credit cards

1. Find out how good the benefits are: Find out if the benefits are really worth it, if you take such rewards credit cards. You can do comparison shopping and find out if there are other credit cards that offer better or more exciting offers for usage.

2. Focus on the interest rate and annual fees: This is an important thing that you should not skip. Reward credit cards take the focus off the interest rate, for the outstanding balance; which may be even more than 18 percent. So, ask yourself if the free trip earned through the credit card is worth it, because for the credit card usage; you are incurring 5 percent interest more than what most credit cards are worth. We are not saying reward credit cards are bad, but you should find out what you are getting into.

3. Will you use the reward credit cards enough: In order to earn these ‘rewards’ you have to use these credit cards regularly? So ask yourself, if you will really use the card enough to earn the rewards that look enticing?

4. Do not buy reward credit cards for benefits that are not your taste: Let’s say you get priority reservations at luxury resorts or discounts on popular stage shows through a particular reward card. But if you do not generally go to these resorts or attend these shows, the benefits may be of hardly any use to you.

5. Retail warranty cause: Certain reward credit cards also say that they offer retail warranty on certain goods. But then you should read the fine print for the time frame in which you can make a claim and if you are compensated for the loss or damage.

6. Read the fine print: It is essential to read the fine print to read everything about the card, including the hidden costs, the interest rate, the annual fees, the restrictions on coverage, the restrictions on insurance etc. You will also come to know under what conditions you will not be able to derive the benefits of the rewards cards. For instance, you may not be able to redeem these airmiles for certain days of the month; possibly the time when you may be looking for using the benefit.
